These figures cover 14,547 departures from Harry Reid International in December 2025. On time means an arrival less than 15 minutes after the scheduled gate time, the DOT's threshold, and the national comparison uses every US departure in the same month rather than the whole year.
Against the year
December next to LAS's other months
Against LAS's own year, December ran 2 points better than the twelve-month rate of 77.9%, which makes it number three of twelve months, best first. Either side of it, November ran 79.5% on time and January 83.1%, so this month sits in line with its neighbours.

Departure window
The best time of day to leave LAS in December
Departure time matters more here than the choice of carrier. The gap between the best and worst window is 19 points, against 13 points between the best and worst carrier. Each bar is the on-time rate for flights scheduled inside that window.
- 5am–8am2,310 flights91.5%
- 8am–11am3,034 flights84.2%
- 11am–2pm2,634 flights78.5%
- 2pm–5pm2,378 flights75.9%
- 5pm–8pm2,147 flights72.6%
- 8pm–5am2,044 flights74.6%
Scale runs 65% to 95%. Rows with fewer than 30 flights show a dash.
Book the early departure. Flights leaving between 5am–8am arrive on time 91.5% of the time, against 72.6% for the evening window. That is 19 points of difference for no extra money, and it comes from the same aircraft having had no earlier flight to fall behind on. The 8am–11am window is the busiest, with 3,034 flights scheduled in it.
Across the week, Thursday is the strongest day at 84.9% on time and Sunday the weakest at 71.7%. 13 points is a smaller lever than departure hour, but it is free.
Carrier by carrier
Which airlines ran best at LAS in December
The choice of carrier is not cosmetic here. Allegiant Air arrives on time 86.6% of the time; Alaska Airlines manages 73.7%. Sample sizes sit next to every figure, because a two-point gap across 495 flights means less than a ten-point one.

| Southwest Airlines | 7,299 | 77.1% | 46 min | 0.40% | B+ |

| Hawaiian Airlinesthin sample | 142 | 70.0% | 113 min | 0.70% | C+ |
The spread between Allegiant and Alaska is 13 points, wide enough that it should decide the booking. On a hundred trips that is 13 more arrivals inside the on-time window.

Delay causes
What held LAS up in December
One category carries most of the weight here. Late-arriving aircraft accounts for 48% of the 172,000 delay minutes carriers reported, and the remaining four split what is left. The split is by minutes rather than by flights, so a few very long delays count for as much as many short ones.
- 48%Late-arriving aircraft
- 34%Carrier
- 15%National Airspace System
- 2%Extreme weather
- 0%Security
48% of delay minutes trace back to a late-arriving aircraft, meaning the plane was already behind before it got here. That is a cascade, and cascades start small and grow through the day. Across 172,000 reported delay minutes here, that single category outweighs weather by 21 to one. It is the strongest argument for booking the first departure of the morning, when the aircraft has been sitting at the gate overnight with nothing to inherit. The split is drawn from 171,921 reported delay minutes.
Cancellations are rare at 0.60%, below the national 1.55% and low enough to earn the plus on the grade. Roughly one flight in 100 is called off; the risk here is arriving late, not not arriving.
5.7% of arrivals land an hour or more late, close to the national 10.0%. That is the figure that decides a connection, and it says a 60 to 75 minute layover is reasonable here while anything under 45 minutes is a bet. Most delays on this route last about an hour, which a normal layover absorbs.
