These figures cover 8,626 departures from John F. Kennedy International in November 2025. On time means an arrival less than 15 minutes after the scheduled gate time, the DOT's threshold, and the national comparison uses every US departure in the same month rather than the whole year.
Against the year
November next to JFK's other months
Against JFK's own year, November ran level with the twelve-month rate of 75.7%, which makes it number six of twelve months, best first. Either side of it, October ran 74.2% on time and December 65.6%, so a trip moved by a few weeks would have landed in a worse stretch.

Departure window
The best time of day to leave JFK in November
Departure time matters more here than the choice of carrier. The gap between the best and worst window is 25 points, against 7 points between the best and worst carrier. Each bar is the on-time rate for flights scheduled inside that window.
- 5am–8am1,321 flights88.7%
- 8am–11am1,671 flights83.0%
- 11am–2pm1,493 flights77.8%
- 2pm–5pm1,525 flights72.8%
- 5pm–8pm1,555 flights64.2%
- 8pm–5am1,061 flights67.1%
Scale runs 55% to 95%. Rows with fewer than 30 flights show a dash.
The 5pm–8pm window is where this operation falls apart: 64.2% on time, against 88.7% for the 5am–8am slot. By evening the aircraft flying these rotations have absorbed a full day of small delays and there is no slack left to recover in. The 8am–11am window is the busiest, with 1,671 flights scheduled in it.
Across the week, Tuesday is the strongest day at 82.6% on time and Sunday the weakest at 69.4%. 13 points is a smaller lever than departure hour, but it is free.
Carrier by carrier
Which airlines ran best at JFK in November
The choice of carrier is not cosmetic here. American Airlines arrives on time 81.3% of the time; JetBlue Airways manages 74.1%. Sample sizes sit next to every figure, because a two-point gap across 2,907 flights means less than a ten-point one.
| Airline | Flights | On time | Avg delay | Cancelled | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JetBlue Airways | 2,907 | 74.1% | 75 min | 4.37% | C− |
| Delta Air Lines | 2,546 | 76.4% | 72 min | 0.75% | B+ |

| Hawaiian Airlinesthin sample | 31 | 56.7% | 56 min | 3.23% | D− |
Republic Airways cancels 5.1% of what it schedules here, the highest in the table. A cancelled flight never appears in an on-time rate, so read that column alongside the punctuality one rather than after it.

Delay causes
What held JFK up in November
Carriers report a reason for every delay minute they cause, in five DOT categories. The split below is by minutes, not by number of flights, so a handful of very long weather delays weighs as much as many short ones. It covers 145,000 reported delay minutes.
- 34%Carrier
- 33%Late-arriving aircraft
- 32%National Airspace System
- 1%Extreme weather
- 0%Security
The largest share of delay minutes, 34%, falls under carrier control: crew scheduling, maintenance, fuelling, baggage. Unlike weather, that is a management outcome, and it is the category where the gap between two carriers on the same schedule is genuinely earned. It accounts for 50,000 of the 145,000 delay minutes reported here. The split is drawn from 145,271 reported delay minutes.
Cancellations run at 2.83%, against 2.49% nationally. That is roughly one flight in 40 cancelled outright. A cancelled flight is invisible in every on-time figure on this page, so the punctuality numbers above describe only the flights that actually operated.
For anyone connecting, the number to weigh is not the on-time rate but the tail behind it. 9.4% of arrivals land a full hour or more behind schedule, against 7.8% nationally. A 45-minute layover does not survive that, and no amount of walking quickly changes it. Ninety minutes is the honest minimum here, and two hours if the onward flight is on a separate ticket.
